Thomas DeRita is the founder and CEO of Resource Group of North America, where he successfully established the company as one of the premier government relations and business consulting firms in the state of Florida.


For over four decades, Tom has been active in politics and the community, serving in various roles for elected officials including former President Ronald Reagan, former President George W. Bush, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, and former Florida CFO Jeff Atwater, among many others. Additionally, DeRita has a deep commitment to giving back to the community. In 1992, DeRita founded the Big Heart Brigade, an organization with a mission to enrich the lives of those in need by providing holiday meals and other forms of support to the underserved. He has also served on several community boards, including the Martin Memorial Health System Foundation, YMCA of the Treasure Coast, Economic Council of Martin County (Past President), and the Adam Walsh Foundation, and he is the chairman of the board of advisors for Keiser University’s flagship campus.


Thomas DeRita holds a business degree from the University of Rhode Island and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Northwood University of West Palm Beach.

Since 1999, Resource Group has been delivering solutions and results for a diverse client base of government entities, national corporations, trade associations, local businesses, and non-profit organizations. Resource Group has built a reputation of integrity and credibility among our clients and within our community.


Resource Group develops and executes government relations strategies to gain support from lawmakers and officials for our clients' policy initiatives and funding requests. Our clients depend on sound strategic advice, lobbying expertise, and established relationships with key legislative and governmental contacts at the local, state, and federal levels.


By working collaboratively with our clients, as well as with local, state, and federal officials and their staffs, we have been able to secure significant amounts of funding for infrastructure improvements and other appropriations. In addition, on behalf of our clients, we have passed major policy initiatives and defeated others.


Resource Group N.A. works with our clients to facilitate understanding of the development potential of a property. Our specialization in understanding regulations, and the appropriate application of rights and entitlements available to a property, assists clients in maximizing potential opportunities.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Obtained a construction management contract for a major developer to build an elementary school.

Secured more than $17 million in state funds for a community redevelopment agency to relocate a major federal highway for a $1 billion redevelopment plan.

Obtained a heavily contested Community Development District permit for a major housing developer.

Resolved conflicts between a real estate developer and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to allow a major coastal development to proceed.

Secured $2 million grant from the Florida Governor's Office for a municipality to make transportation improvements so that a major yacht builder could expand its operations.

Resolved a conflict between a major agriculture firm and a state water management agency, allowing the agriculture firm to expand its business.

Acquired a building permit for a national top selling automobile dealership, allowing them to relocate to a larger facility. Negotiated with the government agency a reduction of the client's impact fees for the project.

Raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions for various federal, state and local candidates.
